Sponging
Sponging is an easy application that produces a speckled granite effect. Sponging is ideal for feature walls, ceilings and furniture such as tables and chairs.

Step 1
Apply a base coat using Bristol Easy Living Low Sheen, Satin or Bristol Opulence in a colour of your choice by brush or roller. (Note, your base coat should be the colour you see less)

Step 2
Moisten the sponge in water to soften and squeeze it out well. Make a top coat mixture using 1 part Bristol Scumble and 1 part Paint. It is recommended to mix the top coat in a bucket and pour into a roller tray.

Step 3
Lightly load sponge with a thin layer of top coat and remove any excess. Press the sponge onto the surface in a gentle pounding motion, and turn your wrist between prints. Do not move the sponge sideways when lifting off. Proceed to sponge in “figure-of-eight’ movements, constantly changing the direction of the sponge. Work in an area of around 1 metre square when sponging a large surface. Ensure patterns join evenly. Bristol Scumble has a work time of 10 – 20 minutes, so you have the ability to change the pattern within this time frame if desired.

Handy Hint
Sponging looks best when the sponged colour is lighter than the base coat.
